New Conference: Evolving & Optimising Private Practice in the Changing NHS Landscape
Saturday 11th September 2010, Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London
Maximising existing opportunities, capturing new opportunities
With the evolving NHS landscape having such far reaching consequences, we wanted to address what this means to doctors working privately and how private practice may be optimised, both in traditional form and though new opportunities. Given the importance placed on private practice by so many, the conference should attract considerable numbers and so we have ensured plenty of space in a prestigious venue. Consequently, we also want to ensure the highest possible quality of speaker faculty.

January and the rate of VAT
Monday, November 30th, 2009
Due the the recession the government last year decided to lower the rate of VAT charged within the UK from 17.5% to 15%. As a VAT registered business Medicology has to charge VAT on it's courses and as such we lowered our course costs (including VAT) to pass those savings on to you - the customer.
Unfortunately the change was always intended to be temporary and as of the 1st January 2010 the rate of VAT will again be returning to 17.5%. This means the including VAT cost of our courses will be increasing by 2.5%.
Although this is a slight increase our courses are still some of the most competively priced out there, but if you're planning on booking a course, it's best to do it this side of Christmas - especially since we are currently running our BOGOF Offer (see above).

Medicology Signature: Our new course sites
Friday, September 5th, 2008
In order to showcase our three core courses, we have created a set of Medicology Signature sites.
Our Signature courses are those where in effect we are the de facto benchmark for the industry, a position earned by leading that field and reinforced by the testimonials of those who have gone before.
These courses deliver exceptional benefits directly to Trusts bringing them in-house, by not only providing a course that is extremely valued by its target audience but also in the positive effects they have on those participating. What's more, you'll almost certainly save money too by reducing open course fees and saving on the travel.
Take a look at our Signature sites:
- Medicology Signature: Core Skills for the Newer Consultant
- Medicology Signature: Core Skills for the Clinical Service Lead
- Medicology Signature: Time Management for Consultants
Unsatisified with NHS conditions?
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007
We are currently running a study for any and all NHS Consultants to try and determin your perceptions of staff treatment within the NHS. The reason for this? Well a recent Whitehall study showed that civil servants who felt they had been treated unfairly were 55% more likely to encounter cardiac events.
If you are a NHS Consultant, please spare 5 minutes to complete our Perceptions of Unfairness in Healthcare study. Now closed.
Management Masterclass for Consultants - most popular
Thursday, February 15th, 2007
Management Masterclass for Consultants is a two-day course that fills the gap of in management training for NHS consultants, or junior doctors nearing completion of training. Since release in the autumn, it has catapulted to the top of the list in bookings and we are now receiving referrals resulting from people who attended the earlier dates.
This level of response probably reflects the lack of management development NHS consultants are receiving during their training and the increased requirement to engage in both business and leadership issues on reaching this level. Certainly for people wishing to increase their effectiveness through people, this is probably one of the most effective courses we run.
Interestingly, we also get the most bespoke enquiries about it too, which we are delighted about because by organising it for a specific group of people we get to tailor the programme to deal with specific issues and everyone gets the benefit at reduced cost.

AMEX and PayPal skim customers for an extra 5%
Tuesday, February 13th, 2007
Following two unrelated reports that delegates had been charged around 5% more on their AMEX statements than they believed they had paid for their Medicology course, we undertook an investigation and found some very surprising results.
There is an ongoing dispute between PayPal (an eBAY company), our payment processor, and AMEX. This means that purchasers using AMEX are routed to the US PayPal processing centre and charged in dollars, which is then converted back to pounds at a disadvantageous exchange rate, resulting in a roughly 5% additional cost of courses paid for in this manner. This is not unique to Medicology Ltd and in fact eBAY themselves have just issued a warning about it. We have absolutely no way of determining this because we are receiving the right amount of funds. That's right, both PayPal and AMEX are receiving greater funds at the expense of the purchaser, without ever informing the retailer.

We have now amended our payment process to include a 'wealth warning' but advise all of our customers to use another card type e.g. VISA, Mastercard, SWITCH etc where no such problem occurs.
